The Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees during its regular monthly meeting Thursday approved a new policy to allow for telecommuting as a temporary or permanent work arrangement for Sandburg employees.

Under the policy, telecommuting serves as a voluntary, cooperative arrangement based on the needs of the College, the employee’s department and their role, allowing employees to work at an alternate location for all or part of their workweek.

The policy was introduced after many Sandburg employees continued to perform all or part of their duties while working remotely in the past year during the COVID-19 pandemic. The College found that telecommuting offered benefits in terms of increased productivity and employee morale.

In other business, the Board approved the following:

  • Resignation/retirement of Steven Mills as building maintenance staff, effective June 30.
  • Employment of Vaughn Greer as building maintenance staff, effective June 1.
  • Separation agreement with William Anderson, full-time faculty for associate degree nursing, effective April 16.

The Board’s next scheduled meeting is 7 p.m. June 24.
